Tuesday Giveaway: T-Fal Actifry & Crispy Potato Salad with Wings

Actifry Chicken Wings

I will admit, I was a tad skeptical when I received a T-Fal Actifry machine in the mail in December. I am not a fan of deep frying, especially since I am now concentrating on losing the baby weight. However, the claim of the Actifry was intriguing. Could this machine really make ALL the dishes in the book while using minimal amounts of oil to keep them on the healthy side?  Why was Oprah telling the world that that machine changed her life when she is not a paid spokesperson? I always thought machines like this were strictly for making donuts and french fries – delicious, but most unhealthy. Curious, I put the machine to the test last weekend.

The first dish we chose to make was a hearty salad reminiscent of my favorite Big Fat French Salad by Cowgirl Chef. I was skeptical that the machine could produce crispy potatoes with bacon. Don’t fried potatoes usually get crispy by being dunked in bubbling fats? However, within minutes we happily discovered they indeed could be produced without the massive oil-fest. To compliment the hearty salad my husband insisted on making Buffalo chicken wings. I am not a huge wings eater, but he had a vision of crispy wings made with half the fat, served with a side of blue cheese dressing. I happily obliged and he was thrilled with the results. The wings cooked through and the skin crisped up beautifully. Best of all they weren’t dripping with excess oil and, as my husband pointed out, “they don’t have that deep fryer taste.”

While I am not usually a huge proponent of appliances that have only one use I think the T-Fal Actifry might be just the machine for whipping up crispy, healthy dishes. The variety of meals and desserts it can make is impressive and it truly is easy to use.  I’ve already marked five more dinners to make for us over the next few weeks. I can’t believe how many options there are for different cuisines and dishes we like. Don’t believe me, flip through the cookbook!

Here are the recipes we have tried and enjoyed so far:

Crispy Potatoes with Bacon & Paprika served on a bed of greens

Crispy Chicken Wings

  56. I would probably have to say that I’d love to be able to make sweet potato fries, and am getting tired of having just “salady things” when my husband eats All American goodies. I’m a big fan of those with blue cheese dip or a sweet chilli sauce type of homemade condiment called “Devil’s Pickle” in Finnish. Both a FB fan and subscriber.

Oh boy, that is easy: fritters of all kinds! Cauliflower, spinach, zucchini, sweet potato…. so for once, the frying oil does not overwhelm and outpace the health content of the veggies! (I’m on your mailing list and fbook, by the way.)
