Salted Almonds + Women of Steel with Samsung

Spiced Almonds

You may have noticed around the web that Samsung is running a contest called Women of Steel. It is a cool contest where you can nominate a woman in your life to win a premium dinner party cooked by a local chef and a whole suite of new Samsung Kitchen Appliances. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful start to the holiday season to see someone you love win such a well-deserved prize! I know we all have women like this in our lives, the women who really do it all and deserve every bit of recognition for being the superstars that they are. I can think of several people I’d nominate for this contest. In fact, since I can’t narrow it down to one today I’ll talk about three!

My friend Nicole, whom I talk about frequently, is a working Mom with two young children and she deserves major props. She runs her own business, manages her awesome family, and still finds to time to host weekend-long Applemania extravaganzas for her friends every fall! I mean, seriously, any mother completely understands how above and beyond it is to entertain and give to your friends well above and beyond everyday responsibilities at home and work.

My Mom, of course, is a Woman of Steel. She raised two of us while working and managing my Dad’s very hectic work schedule. She is now retired but still fills her time volunteering, entertaining, and taking care of her grandchildren!

And, last but not least, if my grandmother Pat was alive she’d be a Woman of Steel. She was one of those women who really did do it all, even in the toughest of times. My grandfather spent several years across the pond fighting in WWII and my grandmother was at home volunteering, raising my father and uncle, taking care of her neighbors, and canning every single item of food out her backyard garden. It is because of her my father and I adore canning food to this day. It is in our blood!

All three of these women were and are fantastic entertainers, mothers, and citizens. Every day I admire all the hard work they do. To celebrate them today I am sharing a great entertaining recipe for a go-to spiced almond recipe I totally love. It is a snap to make during the holiday season and would be fantastic to serve at any party!

Don’t forget to nominate your Women of Steel nominee soon!
